Albania, the best-kept secret of the Balkans, awaits you with its unique blend of history, culture, and stunning natural landscapes. This fascinating country reflects the major stages of Europe and preserves traces of the Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Venetian, and Ottoman eras. Despite its isolation during the communist era, Albania has opened up to the world and today seeks its place in modern Europe, without losing its authenticity.
On this trip, you’ll find not only historical traces but also wild and untouched nature. From the majestic Albanian Alps and Valbona National Park to the turquoise waters of the south in beaches like Dhermi, Himara, Borsh, or Saranda facing Corfu, Albania is an ideal destination for lovers of mountains, biodiversity, and crystal-clear seas.
You’ll explore magical places like the Blue Eye spring, the Theth waterfall, or the Osum canyons, while also discovering UNESCO World Heritage cities like Berat and Gjirokaster. It’s a journey that combines adventure, unforgettable landscapes, and a deep connection with the Balkan essence.
Are you ready to discover a country where religions, cultures, and breathtaking nature coexist?
You can take whichever flight suits you best, the important thing is to arrive in Tirana on August 17.
We’ll have breakfast at the hotel and then take a stroll around the city center of the capital. Around 12 – 12:30, we’ll head to Shkoder, the largest city at the foot of the Alps, in our private vehicle. There, we’ll enjoy a group meal to get to know each other and explore the city and the lake. We’ll spend the night in Shkoder.
At 6 a.m., we’ll be picked up from the hotel to spend the next 6 nights in the beautiful mountains bordering Kosovo and Montenegro. We’ll travel by minivan (approx. 1h 40min) to the port of Koman, where we’ll take a ferry crossing the river (approx. 2h). It’s recommended to take precautions against motion sickness, not because of the ferry, but due to the winding mountain roads to the destination.
The ferry will disembark us in Fierza, where we’ll take the final minivan transfer to our destination, Valbonä (approx. 2h). Arrival is expected around 1:30 p.m. There are no ATMs in Valbonä.
Once in the mountains, it’s time to enjoy nature, fresh air, and our charming rural accommodation at the foot of the rocky peaks, resting for the next day with a group dinner of typical local products.
On this day, we have a beautiful 12–13 km hike to the village of Theth. You’ll pass idyllic landscapes with lush greenery, local flora and fauna, and maybe, if you’re very lucky, spot brown bears. The difficulty level is MEDIUM-HIGH, as you’ll gain nearly 1,000 meters of elevation. After breakfast, at a relaxed pace, we’ll start the adventure.
Once in Theth, we’ll check in to our accommodation, where we’ll spend the next 5 nights. You can enjoy nature, relax, read, play board games, join group activities, or do more hiking… it’s your choice.
A short, optional hike around the area to explore the surroundings. In the afternoon, we’ll have a drink together at one of the village bars.
Check-out in the morning and return to the city of Shköder. In the afternoon, we’ll take a bike ride around the lake (optional) with picturesque views. At sunset, we’ll visit the ruins of Rozafa Castle. In the evening, we’ll have dinner at a typical Albanian restaurant.
Breakfast and check-out from our hotel, then we’ll head to visit Krujë, known for its Ottoman medieval look, an iconic place in Albania. The city’s museums and bazaar make it a must-visit spot. In the late afternoon or evening, we’ll arrive in Tirana, where we’ll spend our last two nights.
On this day, there is the option to visit another place in southern Albania, explore some beaches, go canyoning, kayaking, or learn more about Albanian culture. Once in the capital, everyone is free to choose their preferred activity. If everyone agrees, we can spend the day in the south and return to the hotel at night.
