The hiking route through the Sierra de Irta is a true Mediterranean natural paradise, where the mountains meet the sea in one of the best-preserved coastal landscapes in the Valencian Community. This experience combines nature, history, and panoramic views, making it an ideal option for those looking to discover an authentic and uncrowded environment.
The excursion begins in Peñíscola, one of the most beautiful towns in the Valencian Community, where a short visit is made before starting the hike. Its old town, crowned by the iconic Castle of Pope Luna, offers the perfect introduction to the historical and coastal surroundings of the area.
From there, the hiking route continues through the Sierra de Irta Natural Park, ending in Alcossebre, crossing a protected area where mountains meet the Mediterranean Sea. Along the way, the trails offer constant views of the coastline, with cliffs, hidden coves, and ever-changing landscapes.
During the route, visitors can immerse themselves in a unique natural environment, home to rich Mediterranean biodiversity, including protected species such as the Mediterranean tortoise.
The Sierra de Irta also stands out for its historical value, with remains of ancient watchtowers and nearby castles such as those of Alcalà de Xivert and Santa Magdalena de Pulpis, which reflect the strategic importance of this coastline throughout history.
One of the main highlights of this experience is the constant transition between mountain and sea, with sections that reveal almost untouched beaches and pristine natural spots, ideal for enjoying the Mediterranean in its purest form.
