Hiking Penyacalva

 

Discover the wild beauty of the Maestrat region in Castellón on the PR-CV225 Camí Roca Penyacalva trail. This scenic hike offers incredible views of Culla, the Montlleó River, and the iconic Penyacalva rock, home to soaring vultures.

The route descends into the Montlleó ravine before climbing the Penyacalva massif, where you may spot goats, mountain ibex, and other wildlife. With its rocky paths and dizzying steps, this medium-high difficulty trail is a must for adventurous hikers seeking unforgettable landscapes in Maestrat.

Itinerary

8:30 Meeting Time

We meet at 08:30 in front of Mestalla (Avenida de Argon, 31) A small introduction to group and we leave.

Arrival, Coffee and Hike

Arriving Culla a break before starting the trek, On the middle way we will stop to have lunch.

The End of the route & Village

When we finish the hike, we will go the the village (Most probably Culla) to  have some drinks and discover.

We go back to Valencia

After having some drinks we will return to Valencia.

Distance: 16,74 km (circular route)

Elevation gain: 816m

Difficulty: medium high (You have to be physically fit and requires apropiate footwear and sun protection)

As we can understand from its name, during the route we will find ourselves in striking crags and Mediterranean forests that characterise this amazing landscape. The route follows the course of the river Monlleó where you can contemplate magnificent views offered by the grandiose surroundings.

Should we bring our own food?

Yes, it is recommended to bring your own food because in most of the hiking places it is not possible to buy it.

 

What do I need to hike?

You can consult the section “what to bring” & “hiking description” where it will be clearly mentioned what you need for the excursion. You will also receive an email after the reservation  with detailed information.

Do I need to know how to use a map?

You don’t need to know how to use map, bacause the mountain tours have a professional mountain guide.

How/Where can I book?

You can book on the website or at our office in Plaza Honduras, 26 from 09:30 to 14:30.

Do I have to book in advance or can I pay on the day of travel?

Yes, it is necessary to book in advance, as we cannot guarantee that there will be places available on that day.

What are the cancellation policies?

In case of day trips (same day return):

  • Up to one week before the excursion 100% refund in the form of money or voucher for other excursions.
  • Until Thursday (20:00) of the same week of the excursion 100% refund in the form of a travel voucher.
  • After Thursday, no refund. 

In case of a trip of more than one day (Overnight)

  • Up to 1 month before: 100% refund
  • Up to 3 weeks: 80% refund
  • Up to 2 weeks: 50% refund
  • After 2 weeks: No refund

In case of no-show on the day of travel there is no refund, in case of late arrival at the meeting point there is no refund.

Where does the bus leave from?

Normally our buses leave from Avenida Aragón 31 (Mestalla). However, after booking, you will receive all the details with the ticket by email (please check your spam folder in case you receive the email immediately after booking).
