Forat de Bernia

Get ready to take your breath away with this route on one of the most emblematic peaks in Spain. You will pass from the north side to the south side of the mountain through a tunnel carved into the rock and on the other side you will have a guaranteed wow effect. This is why the Forat de Bernia is an essential route for hiking lovers.

If you like hiking and seeing amazing landscapes, you can’t miss the spectacular Ruta del Forat de Bèrnia. You will find a tunnel that allows you to cross the Sierra de Bernia mountain range that stretches over the Mediterranean coast and offers a variety of natural environments and wonderful panoramic views.

The Fort of Bernia is located at the foot of the Bernia crests, it was built by order of King Philip II in 1592 to defend the coast from Ottoman attacks. Its demolition was ordered by the king in 1612 to prevent the Moorish rebels from using it. Today it is still possible to see small cave paintings, the arches, the moat, the bastion, the cistern and the remains of the walls.

You will not only explore the tunnel, but also the Fort de Bèrnia – or Bèrnia Fort – one of the most important sites of our cultural heritage. 

All these factors, together with an affordable level of difficulty, make this excursion one of the must-do’s in the province.

Should we bring our own food?

Yes, it is recommended to bring your own food because in most of the hiking places it is not possible to buy it.

 

What do I need to hike?

You can consult the section “what to bring” & “hiking description” where it will be clearly mentioned what you need for the excursion. You will also receive an email after the reservation  with detailed information.

Do I need to know how to use a map?

You don’t need to know how to use map, bacause the mountain tours have a professional mountain guide.

How/Where can I book?

You can book on the website or at our office in Plaza Honduras, 26 from 09:30 to 14:30.

Do I have to book in advance or can I pay on the day of travel?

Yes, it is necessary to book in advance, as we cannot guarantee that there will be places available on that day.

What are the cancellation policies?

In case of day trips (same day return):

  • Up to one week before the excursion 100% refund in the form of money or voucher for other excursions.
  • Until Thursday (20:00) of the same week of the excursion 100% refund in the form of a travel voucher.
  • After Thursday, no refund. 

In case of a trip of more than one day (Overnight)

  • Up to 1 month before: 100% refund
  • Up to 3 weeks: 80% refund
  • Up to 2 weeks: 50% refund
  • After 2 weeks: No refund

In case of no-show on the day of travel there is no refund, in case of late arrival at the meeting point there is no refund.

Where does the bus leave from?

Normally our buses leave from Avenida Aragón 31 (Mestalla). However, after booking, you will receive all the details with the ticket by email (please check your spam folder in case you receive the email immediately after booking).
