The castle overlooks the Gulf of Alicante at 166 m high and is the largest medieval fortress in Spain dating back to 1300. Climbing up to the castle you can not miss the Santa Cruz district, one of the most characteristic neighborhoods of the city. Here you will get lost in the narrow streets and you will not stop taking pictures of the beautiful colorful and unique houses intertwined with each other.

In addition to the charming old town, you can visit the beautiful Basilica of Santa Maria, built over a former Moorish mosque, and the Renaissance Church of San Nicolas with the nearby Monastery of Santa Faz. Here you will find the chapel judged to be the most beautiful in the country in baroque style and the “Veil of the Veronica”, an ancient sacred relic.

At the end you have to stroll along the famous “street of mushrooms”, to transform yourself into Alice in Wonderland, and also along the promenade of the Esplanade, which will enchant you with its beauty and its palm trees.
